Sweep - Bill Stewart Nature Reserve

During the sweep done on 12 November, it was found that one of the main struts of the electricity pylon has been removed, which could result in in stability.

During the security sweep, several people were spotted coming from Kloof Rd. using the nature reserve as throughfare. This is an ongoing concern in terms of conservation as well as security as the reserve offers a quick escape route for criminals.

Motorists run crime gauntlet on R21

Gangs of armed robbers are attacking motorists on the R21 Highway. The gangs have left a trail of terror behind them over the past three months. The issue was discussed on 24 November at the Caucus meeting in Kempton Park. The SAPS and EMPD have set up a road block near the airport and The Metro Police have established a special task team relating to O R Tambo airport.

New Environmental Magazine Launched

Seven non-governmental conservation organisations have launched a new magazine to replace African Wildlife (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa – WESSA) and Vision (Endangered Wildlife Trust – EWT) . The Cape Leopard Trust, Game Rangers Association of Africa, SANCCOB, the Wildlands Conservation Trust and the Wilderness Foundation of South Africa join WESSA and the Endangered Wildlife Trust in this new venture. The first issue of the magazine focuses on 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity.
